Mâäk : 4 concerts with Kojo + invites musicians for a musical party on May, 20
Mâäk is going to give four concerts with the project KOJO : 8 percussionists from Benin and 6 'blowers' from Belgium.
Laurent Blondiau : Besides these concerts, we'd love to invite all of you to a big musical party on Sunday the 20th in Park Royal at 5p.m.

The trio of pianist Jérémy Dumont wins the 1st Prize in the Young bands contest in Comblain-la-Tour
The trio of pianist Jérémy Dumont has won the 1st Prize in the Young bands contest in Comblain-la-Tour (ex-æquo with the Saying Somethin’ Quartet). The trio is composed of Jérémy Dumont (p), Bas Cooijmans (cb) and Fabio Zamagni (drs).
They are invited to perform during the festival in July 2012.

"MixTuur" & "Rêve d'éléphant" play in Roumania
'Mixtuur' & 'Rêve d'Eléphant Orchestra' played in Roumenia last week at the 'Sibiu Jazz Festival' (www.sibiujazz.ro), thanks to the Belgian Jazz Meeting, earlier this year in Bruges, where Belgian bands could play for a public of concert organisers. For Tuur Florizoone it's the 3rd time he will play at this prestigious festival.
Both bands will tour this summer at several jazz festivals in Belgium : Comblain-la-Tour, Gaume Jazz Festival, Jazz Middelheim, Festival d'Art de Huy...

Michel Herr participates in the creation of "Colors of Time" in Switzerland, featuring 70 musicians on stage
Beginning of May 2012, Michel Herr is going to Switzerland to supervize the rehearsals of the "Colors of time" project, which will feature 13 arrangements he wrote on compositions by the Swiss pianist/composer Thierry Lang, featuring 5 European jazzmen (David Linx on vocals, Thierry Lang on piano, Matthieu Michel on trumpet, Heiri Känzig on bass and André Ceccarelli on drums) + the "Accroche-Choeur", a large choir (50+) from Fribourg (CH) and the strings of the "Ensemble de Chambre Fribourgeois", conducted by Jean-Claude Fasel. This unique project, which will see more than 70 musicians and singers share the stage, will be created on May 11 and 12, 2012 in Fribourg (CH) and should be recorded live for a cd.

May 6 & 7 : special "Hep taxi" on Belgian jazz on RTBF tv La 2
RTBF television (B) will re-broadcast a special programme from its "Hep Taxi" series, focusing on Belgian jazz. Musicians who will appear in the programme are a.o. Philip Catherine (gt), Bert Joris (tp), Alexandre Cavaliere (vl), Quentin Liégeois (gt) and Mimi Verderame (drs, gt).
Michel Herr wrote a piece for the occasion, titled "A hip taxi", played by Steve Houben (alto sax), Jean-Pol Estiévenart (tp), Nicolas Kummert (tenor sax), Pascal Mohy (p), Jean-Louis Rassinfosse (double bass) and Jérôme Baudart (drums).

Contest for Belgian jazz themes organized by Sabam for Jazz Hoeilaart 2012
Like every year, SABAM organizes a composition competition for Belgian jazz themes (1 work only ) in the context of Jazz Hoeilaart (September 2012). The winning work will be the imposed work for the finalists of the Jazz Hoeilaart Int'l Contest for young bands. All jazz composers member (or future member) of Sabam can participate with one work.

Vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher receives an "Echo Jazz" (D) 2012 award
The "ECHO Jazz" 2012 in the category "Instrumentalist of the year International, special instruments, Vibraphone" for the album "Bang my Can", released by Enja Records, goes to Pascal Schumacher.
The ECHO, the German equivalent of the Grammy, is an established and well known music award in the world. This award, yearly granted by the German Phono Academy, honors outstanding and successful achievements of national and international artists.
